Description: This class will first go over the wax, etching into the wax, etc., and many different types of photo transfers on different surfaces. Then the class will go over the different techniques of encaustics. The final stage of the class will be manipulating the encaustic/photo medium through layering the wax, printing on top of the wax, and etching into the wax.
Week 1 - Photo-transfers. A demo on transferring images using acrylic gels, caulk, solvents, and tape on different types of surfaces.
Week 2 - Paper lithography. Photo transfer using oil, ink and gum arabic.
Week 3 - Work day, questions, quick demo on polaroid transfers.
Week 4 - Demo on different ways of encausting an image.
Week 5 - Manipulating the wax through layering, printing, and scraping into.
Week 6 - Work day with wax, questions.
