COLOR THEORY IN PAINTING

Introduction to painting color theory is an in depth course exploring aspects of color and light perceptions such as hue, lightness and chroma, brightness and saturation, visual perception of color, mixing paints, and additive and subtractive color mixing. The class will create works based on complimentary colors schemes, analogous color schemes, and will explore the difference between hue and shades. This class will help students understand the importance of color matching to create realistic artworks as well as exhibit the power of color in abstract painting. This class is open to both oil and acrylic painters. A full kit of supplies can be purchased for the class, if you have some supplies, you may purchase what you don’t have from our store at a 20% discount. Students MUST have the following colors, Acrylic: Titanium White, Primary Yellow, Prussian Phthalo, Perm. Violet, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Burnt Umber, & Phthalo Green. Oil: Titanium White, Naples Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Umber, Phthalo Blue, Dioxazine Purple, Payne’s Grey, & Viridian. Please let us know when registering what you will need. (Full kits also include brushes, palette, canvas boards, and all other tools you’ll need.)
