April 21 - 22, 2012
(2-DAY WEEKEND WORKSHOP)

Description: In this weekend course, students will have the opportunity to explore the exciting light reflecting qualities of glass mosaic by working with both a glass substrate/surface and glass materials.

Instructor will provide a three-dimensional glass vase or small window frame for students to cover with beautiful glass mosaic. (Students may wish to bring their own glass object to mosaic, with consent of instructor.)

Lecture and demonstration will include information on making the best use of transparent, translucent and opaque qualities of glass as well as the basics of cutting, scoring, nipping and setting glass mosaic for varying effects. Instructor will present the uses of clear adhesive on both vertical and horizontal surfaces. Students will receive one-on-one instruction in the use of basic glass tools. A variety of glass materials will be offered for students to use including colored stained glass, mirror, glass marbles, glass tile, vitreous glass, millefiore and more. Beginning and continuing students alike will benefit from this fun and informative class. Beginning students will be introduced to the basics of glass mosaics and continuing students can take their skills to the next level and apply them to a more complex design or to a three- dimensional form.

Instructor will work with students one–on-one to help them achieve their desired effect by suggesting different combinations of materials, textures and setting styles. Students will complete their setting in class.

Second day of class the instructor will do a grouting demonstration and students will have the option of using the second day for grouting or for continuing to set their piece and will then grout their piece at home (instructions provided to every student regardless).
