ETCHING FOR METALSMITHS

INSTRUCTOR: BECKY BURT
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

MAY 20 – 21, 2017 (2 DAY WEEKEND WORKSHOP)

This class focuses on the methods of adding interest to the surface of metal. We will work with the rolling mill, stamping, etching, and hammer techniques as methods of adding interest to your work as well as utilizing PNP to transfer designs onto metal and etch them using ferric chloride. These textured pieces can then be used as templates or parts incorporated directly into artwork.

Please note that this is a process class, not a completion class. There will be a balance of doing (texturing and etching), combined with theory and design discussions. If there is time on the last day, students may begin creating artwork.
