RINGS GO ROUND (and a Bracelet)
Instructor: Becky Burt
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
August 24 - 25, 2013 (2-DAY WORKSHOP)
Rings go round and round and can be simple or complex, big or small. This 2 day class will teach students to quickly make rings in multiple styles, with and without stones. They will also learn to make a simple linked bracelet. They will twist and ball wire, create links and set stones without solder, and rivet to their hearts content. Each student will leave class with at least 2 rings, one completed bracelet and maybe more.
The instructor will provide basic metals as part of the materials fee -- copper, brass, and steel -- as well as the necessary equipment to twist, punch, and pound metal. Students who have previous metals experience should bring their exiting toolkits including: jewelers saw frame and blades (2/0), files, chasing hammer, center punch, pliers (round nose, flat nose, chain nose), sand paper, etc. Toolkits will be available to rent from instructor for $10/weekend.
Students will work in copper, brass, and steel. Anyone wishing to add items to their pieces such as set stones, found objects, or who wish to work in sterling silver should bring them. 22 ga sterling sheet is the suggested weight.
This class includes use of some chemicals that may be hazardous to your wardrobe. Remember to wear old clothes and closed toed shoes.
Level: Any level, but basic sawing and fabrications skills are a plus.
