Mitchell Long began plein air painting as a student more than 20 years ago, on a grant studying at the Parsons School of Design program in the Dominican Republic. Subsequently he studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Arts and received my master’s degree at Louisiana State University. His plein air works over the years have evolved into deeper connections with perspective and color. His work is represented in collections at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Tampa Museum of Art, the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts of St. Petersburg and the Louisiana State Museum of Art. He has received grants from the Pollack-Krasner Foundation, the Joan Mitchell Foundation and the George and Helen Segal Foundation
