Ben Hamburger
Ben Hamburger is an internationally exhibited artist specializing in figurative painting.His work revolves around the human form while indulging in various textures and work surfaces. His work is concerned with revealing energy within his subjects through vigorous brushstrokes and capturing the form in vibrant intensity. Born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, a suburb of D.C., Hamburger moved to St. Petersburg in 2006 to attend Eckerd College. In 2008, Hamburger moved to Perugia, Italy to study art history and advance his painting skills at the Umbra Institute of Perugia before returning to Eckerd where he graduated with honors receiving a B.A. in visual arts. Hamburger became an integral part of the arts community in St. Petersburg, participating in various group exhibitions and a solo exhibition as well as instructing painting classes at a local studio. Ben later moved to Asia where he continued painting and teaching in diverse settings in Bangkok, Thailand and Gujarat, India. His experiences abroad influence his art and teaching methodology.

THE FIGURE: A ONE WEEK INTENSIVE

December 10 – 14, 2012 (FIVE DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP)

Model fee: $75
Materials: For this course students will need: a 24" x 36" drawing board, 1 large pad of news print paper, one box of medium width willow charcoal, and a rag. Any supplies for this class, including these, are available for purchase as a kit ($30) or piecemeal as needed in our shop at 20% off retail price.
Note: Students are encouraged to bring a range of materials of their choosing to work with throughout the course in media of their choice such as: oil or acrylic paints, pastels, ink pens, pencils, paper, canvas or board.

DEPICTING THE SELF: A STUDY IN SELF PORTRAITS
Monday AFTERNOONS 2:00pm –5:00 pm
July 9 – August 20, 2012 (no class August 13) (6 WEEKS)
Level: Any. Basic knowledge of drawing is helpful, but not required.

Materials: $145 Students should bring used fabric, photos, notes, etc, brought from home for collage.
