Instructor: Laurel True

Dates and times of next class TBA - please call or send us an email if you're interested in taking this course.

Description: Join longtime mosaic artist Laurel True for this fun class, which focuses on a range of inspiring materials that can be included in mosaic artwork. The technique of mosaic can apply to many different types of materials, and many artists are drawn to using diverse media mixed into one piece of artwork.

Class will cover how to work with different types of mosaic materials including broken china, ceramic tile, glass, mirror, found objects and recycled materials. Specific tool use best suited to each media will be presented and demonstrated and students will have an opportunity to experiment with interesting combinations of materials, textures and setting techniques in a piece that they will take home.

Instructor will cover the basics of substrate selection and preparation, correct use of adhesives for specific materials and surfaces and grouting basics. Additional techniques that lend themselves well to mixed media work will be presented including how to affix photos, text and collage work under glass. This is a dynamic class that students really enjoy, with lots of freedom for expression.

Substrates and materials will be provided and students are encouraged to bring any materials they would like to work with as well. Inspirational resources will be provided as well as class handouts.
